Purpose of Education As a developed nation, the United States owes its success to the education system that has evolved with our nation. While at times conflict consumes our nation, tragedy occurs, and hardships arise we can rest assured that our elected officials and citizens are making intelligent decisions that uphold our values, rights, and liberty. These leaders have been elected to operate our democratic society which is propelled forward by education. Education serves as the single most important factor of our society’s framework. How our Education System Developed and Why Thomas Jefferson referred to education as a â€Å"diffusion of knowledge† in the bill he proposed to the Virginia legislature in 1779 (Jefferson, 1779, p.20). He meant that by diffusing the knowledge amongst the people they will be able to protect the values, liberties, and rights that had been granted to them. Jefferson’s ideas were derived from the English education system. His bill did not pass Virginia’s legislature, but it shows us Thomas Jefferson’s views about education, and because of his efforts it was not long until there was a national push for education from the north, starting with the Boston schools. Why Parenting Is More Important That School free essay sample

Research also reveals something else: the parents, of all backgrounds, dont need to buy expensive educational toys or digital devices for their kids in order to give them an edge. Engaging in this reciprocal back-and- forth gives children a chance to try Out language for themselves, and also gives them a sense that their thoughts and opinion matter. All parents need to do is talk. My position on this issue presented by Annie Murphy Paul is one of agreement. I concur that talking to your children and engaging in their academic life can have a positive effect in their school performance. All the research that were mentioned in Palls article reinforced and supported the claim that students perform better or are more interested in their school work if their parents are involved and how interest in their school activities. As the article mentioned, background and digital devices are not a guarantee for good grades; neither are paying for an expensive private school or tutoring. We will write a custom essay sample on Why Parenting Is More Important That School or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page What it comes down to is interaction, talking. I believe this to be true. When a child sees their parents involvement in their academia they feel a sense of importance. In my line of work I come across children and parents who come from a variety of backgrounds. Sometimes see children and the amount of involvement that their parents play in their academic growth show through the amount of information that the child is able to retain. The multiracial children that Ive come across who have difficulty reading and writing have this problem because of their parents inability to speak English properly (Hispanic decent) or because of the limited amount of involvement in their childs education progression. As a child growing up my parents involvement with my academics were very limited. They didnt give me the impression that exerting great achievement in my school work was necessary so didnt feel the need to go to college immediately after high school. Looking back now that Im an adult I wish they had. I feel that if they pushed me harder or talked to me and encouraged me to pursue a college career after high school it wouldve saved me a whole lot of stress as an adult, now that Im trying to pursue my college degree. As a parent now, throw myself into my childrens academics and social life.I try to get involved as much as possible to show them that education is important. I want them to pursue college and to be successful. Know that my involvement is an encouragement to them and theyve told me countless times how grateful they are for my support. My daughter is always telling me how important my presence is at her school functions and my son ill remember when I miss a soccer game. I believe that just the knowledge that children have of a support group, namely their parents, in their corner gives them a sense of purpose. They dont want to disappoint their parents so they feel this pressure to please. After a while that sense of accomplishment becomes internalized to where they self-motivate themselves and want to do their best, want to get good grades, want to succeed and excel. I feel like its my job as a parent to motivate my children to be better than who they are, better than what/who am, and to work for the things that they want. In inclusion, I believe that the studies conducted by scholars and gathered by Annie Murphy Paul are true.Ive seen this first hand and I am a product of poor parental involvement. Can see how my involvement in my childrens lives brings positive reinforcement to their academic progression. Personally, believe that teacher involvement does play a role in a students progression but not as great an impact as the parent does on the child. The family is the central learning center for every individual and if a child sees how important their education is to their parent(s) they in turn want it for themselves to progress.

Law Day History, Origins and Celebration Traditions

Law Day History, Origins and Celebration Traditions History of Law Day In the USA, May 1 is marked on the calendar as Law Day. It is a national day when the country celebrates the role of law and its contribution to the foundation of Americans freedoms. May 1 was primarily chosen as an international day, known as May Day, to commemorate the attempts of workers to improve their working conditions. Though, with the span of the time many European countries continued to stick to the traditions and carry out celebration on May 1, while some other countries, including the USA, started to observe significant to their nation Labor Day on the first Monday of September. The idea to celebrate Law Day belongs to Charles S. Rhyne, the former president of the American Bar Association. He was a legal counsel of President Eisenhower in 1957-1958. Rhyne offered to celebrate Law Day to recognize the US legal system. Since Law Day was proclaimed as a national day by President Eisenhower in 1958, it was stated that henceforth May 1 would be the date to observe it. Law Day has become a reminder for everyone to appreciate the virtues the American nation has, the equality and justice under the law in the relations with each other and other countries and to cultivate the respect for law necessary for the maintenance of the democratic society. Law Day Festivals and Celebrations , the theme will be The 14th Amendment: Transforming American Democracy. There is also a tradition, which was established by President Eisenhower in 1958 and is observed by every President till present time: to issue an annual Law Day Proclamation. Each Proclamation is aimed at discussing the American rights and American law and stresses the importance of the recognition of the rule of law as supreme as in Eisenhowers Proclamation; calls for struggle to defend the way of life in Kennedys Proclamation; aspires to fuller awareness of the importance of respect for law in Johnsons Proclamation; advocates to make the country a beacon of liberty in Reagans Proclamation; celebrates the nations commitment to the rule of law and the equality under the law in Obamas Proclamation. Application for leadership program course - Personal Statement Example My level of experience and position has earned me the status of a mentor for medical students and fellow nurses in the emergency department; I hold great pleasure in guiding people this way and helping them to improve their performance. The reputation of being a senior and resourceful employee increased my interest in the Clinical Leadership Program. The field of medicine requires effective team work and mutual support more than any other field since it is a matter of life and death in numerous instances. The clinicians, who do not realize the relevance of team work, cannot provide good quality service to their patients. The presence of team work and mutual support can be expected from any team if they are managed and led by effective leaders. The Clinical Leadership Program bears the necessary aspects that develop a regular clinician into an attentive and organized leader. All clinicians aim to improve the services for patient care but the tools and skills that are taught in the respective program make the person aware about innovative approaches of giving a patient-centric service. As stated earlier, I work in the emergency department and am faced with nerve wrecking instances every day that require coordinated actions and presence of mind. I believe that this program will facilitate the development of my skills to tackle challenging tasks with confidence and lead the team members in a coordinated fashion. It is natural for clinicians to panic at some instances but such professional trainings help the individuals to maintain their focus to improve their decision making abilities and quality of service. I possess skills to comprehend the boundaries and scope of medicine that makes me plan the course of action to be taken to provide quality care to the patient.
